The problem we saw was personal
In 2024, we watched a Lagos fashion boutique owner spend every night replying to the same questions on WhatsApp — “what sizes do you have?”, “how much?”, “do you deliver to PH?” — while she was trying to sleep, eat dinner with her family, and manage the actual business.
She was not unusual. Across Nigeria, business owners were using WhatsApp as their primary sales channel — because that is where their customers are — but the volume of messages was becoming unmanageable. They could not afford a customer service team. International chatbot products did not understand Nigerian English, Nigerian pricing, or Nigerian context.
